How to convert iPhone Photos (HEIC) to JPG

  1. 01.

Add your HEIC photos (up to 20, 25 MB each).

  2. 02.

JPG is already selected: press Process.

  3. 03.

Download each photo or all of them in one ZIP file.

Why iPhone photos are HEIC

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC because it stores the same picture in much less space than a JPG. The catch is compatibility: many websites, forms, printing services, Windows programs, and Android apps do not accept HEIC. JPG is understood everywhere.

What you get

Each photo keeps its full resolution (a 3024 × 4032 iPhone photo stays 3024 × 4032) and is saved at JPG quality 95. JPG is less efficient than HEIC, so the file gets heavier: a 2.4 MB photo became a 3.6 MB JPG in our test. The JPG is built from the pixels only, so location and camera data are not copied.

HEIC and JPG compared

Both formats hold the same photo. What changes is where each one works:

Common problems and how to fix them

  • The conversion takes a few seconds

The first photo also loads the converter; in our tests a 12-megapixel photo took about 3 seconds on a computer. Big batches are converted one after another, so wait for the list to finish.

  • My photo is not accepted

Files up to 25 MB are accepted. If a photo cannot be read it may be damaged: try another copy, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible for new photos.

  • The JPG is larger than the HEIC

JPG compresses less efficiently than HEIC. Continue to Compress and choose a quality of 75–85 to bring the weight down while keeping a natural look.

🔗 Keep going without uploading again

Need smaller files for email or a form? After converting, continue to Compress to lower the size, or Resize to set exact pixel dimensions, without adding the photos again.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer your questions about privacy, features, and limits.

Is it safe to convert my iPhone photos here?
No. The file is processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a FreeConvertYou server. Your photos stay on your device.
Will I lose quality?
JPG is lossy, but the conversion keeps the full resolution and uses quality 95, so the difference is hard to see. Keep your original HEIC files if you want an untouched master copy.
Why can my computer not open HEIC photos?
Windows needs an extra extension from Microsoft to show HEIC files, and some programs do not support them at all. Converting to JPG avoids the problem.
Can I make my iPhone save JPG from now on?
Yes. On the iPhone go to Settings, Camera, Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG, but they will be larger than HEIC.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 photos, 25 MB each, and download them as individual JPGs or one ZIP.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser, on a computer or a phone, and the photos never leave your device.
Can I convert JPG or PNG back to HEIC?
No. Browsers cannot create HEIC files, and you rarely need one: JPG and PNG open everywhere HEIC does. Keep HEIC for your iPhone and use JPG or PNG for everything else.
